Russian words for “to be kept in perpetuity.” Intelligence files to be so maintained bear the Kh. V. stamp. But the words are rarely spoken directly by insiders. They prefer the obtuse words, “Khristos voskresye,” an Eastern greeting exchanged by Orthodox Christians after a church service. When spoken by one Soviet intelligence officer to another, the words had no religious meaning; however, their first letters, Kh. v., “signaled that the files being discussed were to be retained permanently.”
